FAQ

Who is behind emmasbox?

emmasbox is a spin-off from The Technical University of Munich, which was founded in 2013 with the goal of solving the “last mile problems” in parcel logistics: missed delivery notifications, short opening hours and long queues in post offices, as well as high costs due to unsuccessful delivery attempts. emmasbox is owned by the emmasbox team, financial investors and major players in European retail. Our team consists of 8 employees based in Munich.

Does the company “emmasbox GmbH” operate any lockers?

Do you offer insurance for the ongoing operation of lockers?

No, we do not offer any insurance for the ongoing operation of our lockers. However, many customers independently insure the stations they acquire, for example against vandalism. To do this, please contact your insurance provider or broker.

What do you need to consider for the location of a locker?

The location of a locker is subject to both commercial and technical requirements. From a business point of view, it should be ensured that the location can meet your economic expectations for the lockers. The following technical conditions for the site should be taken into account:

  • Adequate space for the locker

  • Flat and structurally suitable ground

  • Option to screw the locker to the ground

  • Placed directly against a building or standalone

  • Existing electricity supply on site (generally 230V)

  • Existing internet connection/access on site, generally via data SIM card

Does an emmasbox locker need an internet connection?

Yes, every emmasbox needs to communicate with the internet in various situations. The internet connection required for this is a data SIM card, there is therefore no need to lay cables at the station’s location. However, the mobile communications reception quality should be tested before the location is acquired.

Who installs and maintains emmasbox lockers on site?

We work with international partners such as Deutsche Telekom or Diebold Nixdorf for the delivery, installation and maintenance of emmasbox lockers. With their comprehensive service network and experience in the installation and maintenance of hardware, we ensure nationwide rollouts and trouble-free servicing on site.

Yes, of course. Most of our luggage lockers are supplied with debit/credit card terminals due to their purpose of use.

Can an emmasbox station be fitted with a cash payment system?

No, we do not supply lockers with cash payment systems. These components are not only expensive to purchase and maintain, they also require cost-intensive processes such as cash logistics. Based on many years of experience with our customers, cash payment systems can no longer be justified financially in the age of digitalisation.

Can the locker be fitted with bird control spikes?

Our lockers can be fitted with bird control spikes after installation. However, it is the operator’s responsibility to install them. They are not supplied ex works with this equipment.

How are the compartments cleaned? What are the recommended cleaning intervals?

All lockers can be cleaned with commercially available cleaning products. The recommended cleaning interval largely depends on how much the station is used, as well as its purpose and location. We recommend regular cleaning to ensure smooth operation for many years, especially in dusty locations, for example close to building sites.
